Black Activation Movement Presents
Suriname Freedom Festival - 50 Years of Srefidensi
Black Activation Movement presents the Suriname Freedom Festival, a powerful commemoration of 50 years of Surinamese independence. This special gathering honors freedom, heritage, and the cultural narratives that continue to shape the Surinamese community worldwide.
The program features live painting by artist Rachel Joeroeja, visual storytelling on Indigenous and Maroon traditions by Meredith Joeroeja, and never-before-seen film footage of Suriname in 1975 from the family archive of Bamba Al Mansour, documented during the historic year of Srefidensi.
This festival is an invitation to step into a space where memory, art, and community converge. Join us as we celebrate 50 years of resilience, honor Surinamese identity, and stand in the enduring spirit of Srefidensi.
